More New Batman

The new Batman Clayface movie is being filmed in the same location as Matt Reeves' Batman films, leading to speculation about connections to the DCU. However, new Easter eggs confirm that DCU Gotham City and its Batman will be distinct and separate from Matt Reeves' universe, with James Gunn expected to cast a new Batman for the DCU.

The official map of DCU Gotham City is based on the Batman No Man's Land comic book map, which was also used in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy and the Gotham TV series. The map includes 43 points, with key locations like Wayne Manor and the Batcave, although the latter is outside the main visible frame.

The map features numerous references to Batman lore and creators, including Mooney Bridge (Jim Mooney), Kane Memorial Bridge (Bob Kane), and the Knights Sports Complex (Gotham City Knights baseball team). Newspapers on set also mention the Gotham City Knights playing against the Metropolis Meteors, highlighting the rivalry between the two cities.

Key villain locations are identified, such as Amusement Mile (Joker's base), Gotham City Botanical Gardens (Poison Ivy), Arkham Asylum, and Ace Chemical (Joker's birthplace). The Monarch Theater, where Batman's parents were killed, is also marked, though James Gunn has stated he won't re-tell Batman's origin story. The map also references the Penguin's Iceberg Lounge, suggesting a new DCU Penguin will appear eventually.

Additional Easter eggs include the Gotham City Courthouse, Vince Finkel Bridge (a nod to a Batman comic editor), and Vauxhall Center, which might reference a Legion of Superheroes character. Wayne Industries and Wayne Tower confirm the Wayne family's deep roots in Gotham. The differences between the DCU City Hall and Matt Reeves' version further solidify the separation of the two universes. Blackgate Penitentiary and Finger Memorial Park (Bill Finger) are also featured. The presence of a Black Canary storefront and a Roman Sionis (Black Mask) construction company sign hint at their appearance in the Clayface movie.

A significant question remains about the Clayface movie's timeline, as it depicts the origin of Clayface (Matt Hagen) while a metahuman Clayface seemingly died in Creature Commandos, which is canon and set before the Superman movie. Other present-day DCU Easter eggs (Zesty Cola, Big Belly Burger) suggest the film is closer to current events, creating a timeline discrepancy that James Gunn hopefully will clarify.

While the new Batman isn't expected to appear in the 'Man of Tomorrow' movie before Matt Reeves' 'Batman 2' because James Gunn aims to respect established timelines, more new character and villain Easter eggs are anticipated as filming continues. Previous videos have explored Joker and other Easter eggs, and the 'Peacemaker' series has canonized David Ayer's 'Suicide Squad' into the DCU.
