Jollibee Group's 'Joy for Tomorrow' sustainability agenda focuses on food, people, and planet. JFC Corporate Supply Chain plays a key role in the planet pillar, emphasizing sustainable use of energy, water, and raw materials. Their approach involves influencing mindsets, employing systems, and utilizing technology.
JFC CSC has three policies: mindset (engaging employees for responsible behavior), systems (efficient resource utilization), and technology (investing in equipment and consulting experts for emerging tech like renewable energy). Since 2020, they've focused on energy, water, and waste management with targets aligning with SDGs for decarbonization, water stewardship, and food loss reduction. Training programs facilitate continuous dialogue on sustainability.
JFC CSC launched four initiatives to reduce consumption: optimizing refrigeration and boiler systems, lighting optimization, and water minimization. Refrigeration optimization at JWSN is projected to reduce electricity by 17%. Boiler optimization, through economizers, reduced fuel consumption by 8.5%, avoiding 100 metric tons of CO2 emissions. Motion sensors for lighting also help control usage. Water conservation efforts across all sites save approximately 71,496 cubic meters of water annually.
Initiatives include upsizing projects, reducing plastic usage, utilizing meat trimmings, and yield improvement. These efforts have led to a 34% reduction in waste generation compared to 2020. The Marilao commissary achieved 100% recycled waste by June 2023, meeting its zero-waste target through reduction, recycling, food waste conversion to soil enhancers, and co-processing residual waste as alternative fuel.
JFC CSC tests emerging technologies like the Cosmo motor electrical saving device, which has shown 8-9.7% electricity reduction in installations in Tarlac and Davao. They are also implementing a 9.07-megawatt peak capacity solar panel system across their three largest commissaries and logistics center, with one system already energized and the rest going live by May 2024.
To improve operational efficiency, time and motion studies address bottlenecks, increase production output, optimize planning, and minimize downtime, leading to increased OEE and production capacity. The corporate supply chain team has integrated sustainability into their daily operations, fostering a sense of purpose and engagement among employees. JFC CSC reaffirms its commitment to environmental stewardship, aiming to leave a legacy of responsibility for future generations.
