Set up Shorty for an AI coding agent

Getting Started and Authentication

To integrate Shorty, users must obtain credentials via either MCP OAuth 2.1 (which triggers a browser-based login) or by generating a REST API key at aishorty.com/settings. The API key, when used, should be set as the SHORTY_API_KEY environment variable. Integration is verified by calling the get_usage_quota tool or performing a cURL request to ensure a successful connection.

Agent-Specific Configuration

Shorty provides specific configuration instructions for popular AI coding assistants. These include Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, GitHub Copilot, and OpenCode. Most configurations involve pointing the agent's MCP server settings to https://aishorty.com/api/mcp. Once configured, users typically need to approve OAuth scopes in their browser during the first tool invocation.

SDK and Tool Capabilities

For developers building custom applications, a TypeScript SDK is available. Shorty offers a robust suite of tools that support reading and writing operations, such as creating YouTube or webpage summaries, managing transcriptions, generating subtitles, and checking usage quotas.
