Sonic and Tails eagerly await the new issue of 'Crack-Ups.' Meanwhile, Dr. Robotnik unveils his 'Robotnik's Wretched Life Away Dungeons,' an inescapable prison built to house those who mock him, specifically the 'Crack-Ups' cartoonist, Sketch Lampoon.
Robotnik is enraged by the comic book's depiction of him. He orders his henchmen to arrest Sketch Lampoon, the cartoonist, and drag him to his new prison. Sonic and Tails learn of the kidnapping and decide to break Sketch out.
Sonic devises a plan to get inside the prison: he'll let Robotnik's henchmen 'catch' him. He playfully taunts the S.S.S. Squad, leading them on a wild chase through the desert, causing them to crash their glider, before he 'surrenders.'
Sonic is thrown into an 'all-nuclear forged steel' cell, supposedly impervious to his buzzsaw spin. Robotnik boasts about his security measures, including spear launchers and laser cannons programmed to target anything blue, and a swinging spike ball.
To escape, Sonic uses a secret advanced copy of the 'Crack-Ups' comic book that Sketch had given him earlier. He places it outside his cell, distracting the guards to open the door and retrieve it, triggering the security system on them and allowing Sonic to free himself and Sketch.
Sonic and Sketch make their escape. In the confusion, Robotnik himself triggers a security system, leading to his own capture. The prison begins to explode, forcing everyone, including Robotnik, to flee. Tails creates a comic on the side of a building, portraying Robotnik humorously, which enrages Robotnik even further.
