Inserting a legend onto an ADMIRALTY Standard Nautical Chart

Begin by using the grid box to reference the NM position on the chart. Then, use the latitude and longitude guides on the tracing to accurately position it on the chart.

Using a 7h pencil, mark the start and end of all text lines from the legend onto the chart. Remove the tracing, and then use a 2B pencil and a ruler to draw guidelines between these marked points for each line of text.

With a magenta 0.18 pen, carefully write the legend text as it appears on the tracing, ensuring clarity and proper distinction between upper and lower case letters. Remember that legends should not be arrowed and must be written horizontally unless otherwise instructed.

Once the text is complete, use an eraser to remove all pencil markings. Re-lay the tracing over the chart to verify that the legend has been inserted in the correct position. Finally, add the NM update number to the chart's Notices to Mariners section in the bottom left corner.
