Inserting a cable onto an ADMIRALTY Standard Nautical Chart

Begin by using a grid box to reference the NM position on the chart. Then, align the tracing precisely using the latitude and longitude guides from both the tracing and the chart. Mark the submarine cable positions onto the chart with a 7H pencil.

After removing the tracing, use a 2B pencil and a ruler to draw guidelines connecting all the marked positions. Re-lay the tracing over the chart to verify the accuracy of these guidelines before proceeding.

Using a magenta 0.18 pen and a hacksaw blade, carefully draw the submarine cable with a neat wavy line. Be cautious not to draw over any existing chart information. Once complete, erase all pencil markings.

Lay the tracing back over the chart one more time to confirm the cable has been inserted in the correct position. Finally, add the NM update number to the chart's 'Notices to Mariners' section in the bottom left corner.
