Sonic finds his speed useless without gravity and is trapped. Robotnik's robots mock Sonic, refusing to bring him down, relishing in his helplessness.
Sonic and Tails take a break, unaware of Robotnik's latest plan. Robotnik activates the Gravity Stopper, causing Sonic and Tails to float helplessly in the air, much to Robotnik's delight.
Dr. Robotnik expresses extreme frustration with his unintelligent robotic henchmen, calling them "metal morons" and "idiots," and questioning how he'll ever defeat Sonic with such unreliable help.
A fast-talking salesman named Wes Weasley introduces himself as a representative of the H.D.S.V.A.D.D.L. (Handy Dandy Super Villain Appliance Distributors Limited) and assures Robotnik he can solve his Sonic problem with his gadgets.
Weasley presents the "Darkenator," a device that creates complete darkness. Robotnik is initially impressed, believing it will slow Sonic down, and purchases it for 100,000 Mobiums, along with infrared goggles for his robots.
The Darkenator fails spectacularly as Robotnik's robots struggle in the dark, leading to them getting a parking ticket. Robotnik blames the failure on tampering and demands his money back, which Weasley denies.
Weasley introduces the "Freeze Banger," which is supposed to freeze Sonic. The robots manage to freeze themselves instead of Sonic, and Sonic unfreezes them, making them believe he's helping.
The robots begin to melt after being defrosted, further infuriating Robotnik. He questions why he bothers repairing them and Weasley denies any fault, again blaming pilot error.
Weasley unveils his newest invention, the "Super Duper gravity stopper," claiming it will prevent Sonic from running. Robotnik buys it, along with self-gravity boots for his robots.
