Dr. Robotnik deploys an 'Electro Suction Plate' to capture Sonic. Meanwhile, Prince Charlock and Splog from the planet Rombus crash-land their spaceship on Mobius. Sonic and Tails investigate the crash.
Sonic and Tails confront Robotnik's robots, Scratch and Grounder, who are blocking the Electro Suction Plate. Sonic quickly dispatches them and meets Prince Charlock and Splog. The prince explains that he needs to return for his coronation in two hours, or his baby brother will become king and destroy Mobius. Their ship is in pieces.
Sonic quickly gathers all the pieces of the spaceship, but Splog informs them that key components like the cockpit pressurizing canopy and the navigational nose cone are still missing. With only an hour and 40 minutes left, Sonic reassures them they will find the parts.
Scratch and Grounder pursue Sonic and the prince, attempting to prevent them from finding the missing ship parts. They manage to retrieve the cockpit pressurizing canopy and then quickly spot the navigational nose cone.
Scratch captures what he thinks is the nose cone, but it turns out to be Grounder's actual nose. With only 25 minutes left, Splog believes they are doomed. Sonic realizes the bad bots must have the real nose cone. Meanwhile, Robotnik reveals he has the nose cone and plans to use it to trap Sonic.
Robotnik threatens to turn Tails into molecular particles unless Sonic gives himself up. Sonic agrees to save Mobius. As Robotnik prepares to take a celebratory picture, Prince Charlock tricks him into stepping into his own Electro Suction Plate, destroying Robotnik's hovercraft and freeing Sonic.
With 9 minutes left, Sonic and Tails help the prince and Splog return to Rombus at hyperspeed. The prince successfully makes it to his coronation. Back on Mobius, Tails wants a tan like a sunfish, but Sonic teaches him the importance of using sunscreen and the dangers of sunburn.
