How It Works

1

Paste Your Text

Paste up to 25,000 characters — an email thread, meeting notes, an essay or a transcript. The counter under the box shows how much room is left.

2

Shorty Follows Your Outline

If the text you paste has headings or lists, Shorty notes them and shapes the summary around the same outline.

3

Read Your Summary

A title, a short overview and titled sections come back, usually in seconds.

Why Use Shorty to Summarize Text?

Keeps Your Structure

Headings and bullet lists in pasted formatted text are mirrored in the summary instead of being flattened into one paragraph.

Back in Seconds

Pasted text needs no downloading or transcribing, so the summary usually comes back in seconds.

Kept Out of Search Engines

Summaries of pasted text are marked noindex and left out of the sitemap, so they never show up in search results.

What the Text Summarizer Takes and Gives Back

What you can paste

Up to 25,000 characters of plain or formatted text at a time. Longer text is refused with a message rather than silently cut, and anything under 10 characters is too short to summarize. Links pasted here are summarized as text, not opened — use the Webpage Summarizer to summarize the page behind a link.

Text you already have as a file does not need copying out: the PDF Summarizer and the Word Summarizer take the file itself, up to 100 MB. Pasting needs no account; signing in keeps every summary in your searchable history.

Formatting

When you paste from a document, an email or a web page, the box keeps its headings and lists. The AI receives the plain text together with a count of those headings and lists, and follows the same shape: a text organized under headings gets sections that track them, and a text built from lists gets bullet points back.

What comes back

A title, a one-paragraph overview and titled sections, with no timestamps or page numbers. The summary can be written in any of 113 languages, whatever language you pasted. Because pasted text is often private, its summary is kept out of search engines.

Launch Sync: Decisions and Owners

The team agreed a new launch date, listed the risks still open and assigned an owner to each follow-up.

  1. Launch date moves two weeks

The launch shifts to give QA a full regression pass; marketing adjusts the announcement to match.

  2. Open risks

Payment provider sign-off is still pending, and the onboarding copy has not been translated yet.

  3. Action items

Priya confirms the new date with the provider; Sam books the translation by Friday.

  4. Budget stays inside the quarter

The extra QA weeks fit the budget already approved for this quarter, so no new sign-off is needed from finance.

Shorty condenses pasted text — an email thread, meeting notes, an essay or a transcript — into a title, an overview and titled sections, keeping the outline of formatted text. Summaries usually come back in seconds, stay out of search engines, and need no account.

Frequently asked questions

How does Shorty summarize pasted text?
Paste any text — an email thread, an essay, meeting notes, a transcript — and Shorty returns a structured summary of it. Nothing is uploaded as a file and no account is needed.
How much text can Shorty summarize at once?
Shorty's Text Summarizer takes up to 25,000 characters in one go. Longer text is refused with a message rather than silently cut, so split a long document into parts or upload it as a PDF or Word file.
Do summaries of pasted text appear in search engines?
No. Shorty marks every summary of pasted text noindex and leaves it out of its sitemap, because pasted text is often private — emails, notes and drafts.
Do I need an account to summarize text?
No. Shorty summarizes text without an account and without a credit card. Signing in only adds a saved, searchable history of everything you have summarized.
Is Shorty free to use?
Yes. Shorty is free to use and does not require an account for the summarizer tools — paste or upload something and read the result. A free Shorty account keeps your history in a searchable library, and paid Premium and Pro plans raise the size and volume limits.
Does a failed job still use up my quota?
No. A Shorty job that ends in an error or is cancelled never counts against a quota — the usage is refunded automatically, so a failure costs nothing.
What language is the summary written in?
Shorty writes the summary in the language you pick from its menu of 113 languages, English unless you choose another, whatever language the source itself is in.
Does Shorty have an API?
Yes. Shorty has a public REST API at https://aishorty.com/v1, an official TypeScript SDK (@aishorty/sdk), and an OAuth 2.1 MCP server at https://aishorty.com/api/mcp that lets Claude and other AI assistants summarize, transcribe and search on your behalf.
