How It Works
Paste a YouTube Link
Copy the link to any public YouTube video — a watch link, a youtu.be share link or a Shorts link — and paste it into the box above.
Shorty Reads the Transcript
Shorty pulls the video's captions. If the video has none, it downloads the audio and transcribes it first, which takes a few minutes instead of seconds.
Jump Through Timestamped Sections
The summary comes back as titled sections, each marked with the time it starts. Click a timestamp to play the video from that moment.
Why Use Shorty to Summarize YouTube Videos?
Timestamps You Can Click
Every section carries the HH:MM:SS where it starts, and clicking it plays the embedded video from there.
Works Without Captions
When a creator has switched captions off, Shorty transcribes the audio instead of giving up — up to a length limit for very long videos.
Summary in Your Language
Pick any of 113 languages and the summary is written in it, whatever language the video is spoken in.
What the YouTube Summarizer Accepts and Returns
Links it accepts
A link to one YouTube video: a standard watch link, a youtu.be share link, a Shorts link or an embed link. Channel pages and playlists are not single videos, so Shorty asks for a direct video link instead. A link to any other website is sent to the Webpage Summarizer, and pasted text that is not a link goes to the Text Summarizer.
Videos without captions, and videos it cannot open
Most videos have captions, and those summaries usually come back in seconds. When a video has none, Shorty downloads its audio and transcribes it on its own servers, which takes minutes; a caption-less video over the transcription length limit cannot be summarized, and Shorty says so.
Private, deleted, region-locked and age-restricted videos cannot be read, and end with a message explaining why rather than an empty summary.
What comes back
A title, a one-paragraph overview and a list of sections. Each section has its own heading, a short summary and the time in the video where that part starts; the timestamps run in order and never go past the end of the video. The summary is written in the language you choose — 113 are available — and signing in keeps every summary in a searchable library.
Weeknight Ramen From Scratch
A chef makes a quick broth, prepares the toppings while it simmers and assembles the bowl, with tips for keeping the whole meal under an hour.
00:00:00Why a fast broth still tastes deep
Browning the aromatics hard and simmering with dried mushrooms gives most of the flavour of a long broth in about 40 minutes.
00:07:40Toppings while the broth simmers
Jammy eggs, quick-pickled onions and seared pork are prepared in parallel so nothing waits on the stove.
00:18:15Assembling and seasoning the bowl
Season the broth in the bowl, not the pot, then add noodles, broth and toppings in that order.
Shorty summarizes YouTube videos from their captions, or from a transcription of the audio when a video has none, and returns titled sections with timestamps you can click to jump to that moment. Choose the language of the summary, and use it free without an account.

Frequently asked questions
- How does Shorty summarize a YouTube video?
- Shorty reads a YouTube video's transcript and, when a video has no captions, transcribes its audio with a speech-to-text model on our servers instead. It then returns a structured summary with key points and section breakdowns, rather than a single paragraph.
- Can I jump to a part of the video from the summary?
- Yes. Every section of a Shorty YouTube summary carries the timestamp where that part of the video starts, and clicking it plays the embedded video from that moment.
- Which YouTube links can Shorty summarize?
- Shorty summarizes a single video from a watch link, a youtu.be share link, a Shorts link or an embed link. Channel pages and playlists are not single videos, and private, deleted, age-restricted or region-locked videos cannot be read.
- Do I need an account to summarize YouTube videos?
- No. Shorty summarizes YouTube videos without an account and without a credit card. Signing in only adds a saved, searchable history of everything you have summarized.
- Is Shorty free to use?
- Yes. Shorty is free to use and does not require an account for the summarizer tools — paste or upload something and read the result. A free Shorty account keeps your history in a searchable library, and paid Premium and Pro plans raise the size and volume limits.
- Does a failed job still use up my quota?
- No. A Shorty job that ends in an error or is cancelled never counts against a quota — the usage is refunded automatically, so a failure costs nothing.
- What language is the summary written in?
- Shorty writes the summary in the language you pick from its menu of 113 languages, English unless you choose another, whatever language the source itself is in.
- Does Shorty have an API?
- Yes. Shorty has a public REST API at https://aishorty.com/v1, an official TypeScript SDK (@aishorty/sdk), and an OAuth 2.1 MCP server at https://aishorty.com/api/mcp that lets Claude and other AI assistants summarize, transcribe and search on your behalf.
